There’s A LOT you can do with the free version, though, especially if you intend on using it as your secondary DAW for starting new projects and experimenting with modular plugin setups. There are no nag screens or other similar annoyances in MuLab Free, apart from the soft white noise that you’ll hear in case you hit one of its limitations (up to four sequencer tracks and eight VST plugins per session).

Im biassed, being a MuLab user since the beginning, but for my money, MuLab has never let me down and also has never made me feel like i was missing anything. theres also complex automation envelopes for all types of tracks and parameters. This is true of most types of synthesis, as MuLab covers most bases as well as audio tracking and midi. this means you can avoid any extra purchases just to use your computer to control your modular. it allows direct control of any cv target as long as you also own a dc coupled audio interface, like expert sleepers es-8 or the like. One thing i wanted to showcase here is the modulation to audio conversion module available in the modular portion of MuLab and Mux. the prices reflect Jo’s humble paradigm more than anything else. dont let the low price fool you, however, because quality abounds. MuLab’s capability rivals other titles from corporate software houses while keeping the price ultra-low and beginner-friendly. Jo’s vision has grown by leaps and bounds since then. a main developer of the now defunct ‘Muzys’ of Computer Music notoriety, Jo reinvented his vision of this iconic software into MuLab and Mux Modular, DAW and modular plugin, respectively, after Muzys’ demise. the creator, Jo, is super involved with his base over at KVR.
